• Patch 1.0.02 (August 13): mid-game difficulty switching, skippable cutscene dialogue, halved spike damage in Story mode, pause on minimize or controller disconnect, and an improved Wasp mini-boss camera. This numbered build is now historical; 1.0.04 is newer.
• Linux: an official “Linux update” post existed on August 6, but the store no longer lists a Linux platform; no official explanation was found, so Linux availability stays unconfirmed.

PC release date and current store state

Akatori is available on Steam for Windows PC. The current official store page checked on August 23, 2026 lists August 6, 2026 as its store date, while the developer’s official launch announcement used August 5, 2026. This page preserves both first-party timestamps instead of pretending they are the same field. Akatori is a single-player 2.5D metroidvania developed by Contrast Games, with Games Harbor and Esprit Games listed as publishers on Steam.

The same listing confirms 31 Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud, full controller support, single-player and Windows 10. Its official description frames the game as a metroidvania built around unlocking staff abilities across five worlds.

Console availability: officially confirmed

The official August 15, 2026 announcement “Akatori is on consoles!” confirms the console versions are live:

Earlier press coverage had projected an August 12 console date; the official confirmation is the current source of truth.

Demo history (retired)

A free pre-release Steam demo ran ahead of Steam Next Fest in February 2026 and was retired on July 22, 2026 before release. Press coverage described roughly 45 minutes across three areas, including staff combat, gliding, an underwater section and a Bumblebee boss fight.

The demo is historical context: it helps explain the staff’s combat and traversal roles, but it does not confirm the final unlock order or full-game route. The quick start guide keeps those limits explicit.

Price and discount status

Re-checked on August 23, 2026, the official Steam listing shows a US base price of $14.99 with no base-game discount. The earlier -15% / $12.74 offer observed on August 12 is historical. Regional currency, tax and availability still apply.

The same listing also shows bundles (for example “Akatori & GRIME Bundle”, “GRIS x Akatori BUNDLE” and “Paint & Magic Bundle”). Those are two-game packs, not editions of Akatori itself.

Steam platform note

Steam’s system requirements for Akatori list Windows only (Windows 10 64-bit build 19043 or newer for both minimum and recommended). macOS and Linux native entries are not shown on the Steam page; the console versions reported for August 12, 2026 and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027 are separate from the Steam PC build.
